Snow, Snow, Beautiful Snow!!!

I lived thru 2006 without the puffy white stuff. I didn't see it, feel it, or taste it in 2006. All that will be different in 2007. I began the year with a trip to Tahoe. Before the snow even began to fall this season I started scheming this weekday retreat. I knew I would have some days off the first week in January and I knew exactly where and how I wanted to spend them.

My day on the mountain started the night before when I set my alarm for 6:20 am. I think I slept less than an hour due to my excitement. The shuttle was leaving at 7:17 am and I didn't want to miss it. I decided not to wait for my friends because I knew I would end up being a complete pain in the ass if I was on someone else's schedule.

The shuttle bus was so packed that it had to leave people on the side of the road. I felt lucky that I had been waiting a stop sooner and therefore wasn't being left behind in the cold. As we drove by on our way to the mountain people were flipping off and yelling at the brave driver.

I stood in the aisle of the bus with my snowboard , wearing all of my gear as excitement bubbled in side of me. The day couldn't have been more beautiful. My first few runs were bitter cold but I didn't mind. The fresh powder provided plenty of distraction.

As the sun climbed the sky the light shined thru the snow covered trees. They sparkled with the joy I felt. My determination had been rewarded.

I took a break late in the morning to meet my friends at mid-mountain. I was glad I had made the early runs when I observed that one of them showed up without her gear on. We waited for her to check her bag, put on her boots, and drink some water.

Once we started riding we rode until we were starving. We took a break for lunch at the top of the mountain where we dined on expensive quesadillas and wine from a plastic cup that the server generously filled to the rim.

The day began to catch up with me once we were riding again. I started having a difficult time making turns. I took more breaks. I layed down in the middle of a run to look up at the bright blue sky. I felt ALIVE. I could feel my heart pounding. I was aware of the muscles in my legs. Everything felt awake within me.

2007 is going to be a year filled with the fluffy white stuff! I plan to shine as bright as the snowflakes when the snow hits them and creates their sparkle.
